What it does
A close-management product for an accounting firm's client finance work. Each client's close is a checklist: bank and card reconciliations, accruals, depreciation, payroll, intercompany and review. Every task has an owner, a due day and a reviewer. Bank and ledger balances are compared automatically, and only differences need someone's time. Reviewers sign off each section, and the history shows where every close ran late.
The problem
Closes ran on spreadsheets and chat messages. Nobody knew what was blocking the books, reconciliations were rebuilt from scratch each month, and closes slipped past a week.
Approach
The checklist is the same each month and improves with each close. Routine reconciliations run as soon as the bank data arrives, and only show differences above a set amount. Every section has a reviewer, and nothing is marked closed without their sign-off.
